Why Shirl?

Brothers of Sigma:

For over 98 years, the mission of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has been to produce successful young men who can make a difference in the lives of others, in their communities, and the nation. The primary way to achieve this goal is to ensure our members, and the young men they mentor, are provided opportunities for a quality education.

This is accomplished by making education an integral part of our commitment to provide support to students from middle school through high school. Additionally, we must encourage and assist our youth to enter college, fully prepared to succeed, and to extend their hand to help others.

The National Office of Education will coordinate the Sigma Educational Program, “Sigma Education Nation," a nation-wide initiative with Regional and localized replication of the national program’s components. The comprehensive effort will include:
(1) Several “Initiatives” which will be driven by the office with follow-through to establish, advocate for, and see to implementation of efforts which are not true programs, but rather efforts to raise Sigma’s profile, and (2) “Programs” which will require broad-based efforts to implement, with the involvement of Brothers, Chapters, and Regions joining in that implementation.

I look forward to an implementation of the “Sigma Education Nation,” that will plant our organization firmly into the future of education, the community and the nation.
